Deltagon Sec@GW version 3.1 - new possibilities

30. August 2011

We have developed our product in accordance to our customers' wishes. We offer completely new possibilities to protecting e-mail. In this version we introduce strong authentication into easy-to-use e-mail encryption. We also offer new tools for protecting the company's internal e-mail traffic.

Strong authentication into easy-to-use encryption

With strong authentication the receiver of confidential message can be authenticated electronically by using TUPAS (User Identification by Finnish Banks' Authentication Service) or Vetuma service (Electronic authentication and payment service for citizens). Strong authentication offers receivers name and social security number. In principle the service functions as in postal procedures: it is impossible to know if the receiver works for the company, but if the secrecy of correspondence is violated, the person opening the message can be identified from the social security number.

The strong authentication can be accompanied by a disclaimer about the confidentiality of the message. Thereby the reader knows that the message is opened unjustly if he/she is not the intended recipient.

Identifying an outside sender is also possible

An outside sender of confidential message can be authenticated with TUPAS or Vetuma service. This strong authentication method works alongside with the other authentication methods and provides the name and social security number of the sender.

For cases where the authentication is not desired, in order to maintain easy access, Captcha has been added to prevent spam messages generated by computers. Even though this has not been a problem so far, there is now a way to prevent attacks in the events where a message can be sent without registration.

Adding receiver addresses is easy and fast for the sender of a message

Several improvements have been made to the user interface to make the use easy and fast to the sender. For example registered users can add addresses faster and more efficiently with an address book. System remembers the addresses previously used and suggests them automatically when sender is writing down receiver address.

Information security policy guidelines can be issued to users with D-Control

With D-Control the realization of the data security policy in terms of e-mail traffic can be monitored and observed easily. In addition, the protection of messages containing confidential material can be automated.

D-Control can be utilized in training the users: sender of the message can be informed of an operation that is against the policy and thereby taught to know the information security policy better and to understand what confidential material is.

New tools for protecting internal e-mail traffic

It is now possible to protect the company's internal e-mail traffic. Protection utilizes S/MIME or Open PGP encryption. The message is sent to the receiver with the familiar D-Envelope and therefor there is still no need for complicated key/password exchange even though the messaging remains confidential throughout the whole message chain.

New supported standards to receiving messages

New supported standards enable the message receiver to read the secure messages directly with his/her own e-mail program. If an outside receiver has an S/MIME certificate or an Open PGP keys in use, it is possible to register to receive messages using these standards. The registration of an outside has no effect on the operation of the sender: messaging remains transparent and sender doesn't need to have a corresponding method in use.

New features

New version includes many features and improvements related to the user interface as well as to the management. Regarding the user interface among other things the layout has been updated to a more modern view and a new method for saving a message with S/MIME encrypted form has been added. Different certificates and licenses affecting the function of Sec@GW can now be managed centralized.
