Deltagon D3 version 2.8x now available

17. March 2010

D3 solution has been developed with the study conducted in summer 2009 on the use of D3 solution taken into account and this functionality update includes many features that increase the way D3 can be used.

  • Instructions for message’s receiver and user of web-compose corresponds to the features offered in user interface. Texts in instruction documents can be alternatively customized to correspond with organizations instructions to keep the look consistent.
  • Also calendar messages can be send confidentially with the new version. Message’s receiver can open the iCalendar.ics attachment and add it to own calendar.
  • In addition the administration panel has been renewed to make controlling D3 easier and more explicit.

New update system gives speed to installations

  • Deltagon offers updates in two levels; bug fix updates and functionality updates. With new D3 update system bug fix updates can be automatized and the software is always up-to-date. Functionality updates are still installed according to separately agreed timetable.

New settings for individual users

  • Messages sent from certain addresses can be automatically encrypted. Feature can also be utilized in messages sent automatically for example by a customer service system.
  • Read receipt can be set individually to each sender's so that sender will automatically be notified when message is opened (no receiver acknowledgment required)
  • Notification messages can be personalized according to sender or receiver address. This way messages sent to abroad for example can use only English in the notification message's texts (for example all messages sent from address sales@default.com will be sent in English).

Web-compose connects to the organization's business processes even better than before.

  • Already earlier in web-compose the message’s receiver can be added straight to a link with a parameter (for example confidential messages addressed to Peter can be sent in address http://secure.default.com/peter@default.com) and this way for example in www pages a link can be placed to a persons contact information.
  • As a new feature in web-compose interface, limited receiver addresses can be shown so that the sender of a message doesn't need to know receiver's e-mail address. This way web-compose works directly as an interface for confidential communication. Receivers will be placed to a drop-down list either as e-mail addresses or names, when for example sales@domain.com can be shown alternatively as Sales. This way web-compose operates as an easy communication channel and message can be directed to right processor even if the sender don't know the receiver.

More security in different ways

  • It is possible to define which attachments can be attached to a message sent through web-compose or to a reply message. For example only PDF files can be allowed.
  • As an additional option for the messagelock technique in letter-level, the receiver can be authenticated with a pre-shared password. Same technique can be utilized in systems sending messages automatically. This feature works as the familiar registered letter level, but it also makes it possible to authenticate the receiver even if the mobile number is unknown.
  • The length and other security settings of a PIN code needed in registered letter-level can be defined.
  • Verification of the notification message’s sender adds recipients trust to the received message, which is done with S/MIME signature. Replies to notification messages can be prevented by defining a specific sender and reply-to address (for example no-reply@default.com).

Receiving large attachments possible despite the size of internal mail box

  • D3 supports the sending of large attachments because they are not delivered as SMTP traffic in public network. With D3 also the receiving of large attachments is possible even if the internal mail servers don’t support receiving large attachments. This can be done by defining the messages larger than the internal post server allows to be encrypted. These messages can be read from D3 server using the link in notification message sent to receiver. This way also large attachment reaches the receiver.

Centralized management to TLS connections

  • In addition to envelope encryption it is possible to control TLS connections centralized from D3 administration panel. D3 always confirms the execution of these TLS connections (forced connection).

Other new features:

  • Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is developed to prevent junk mail and it is used to stop address forgery. Technique works so that domain’s owner can define allowed sender server addresses. In D3, functionalities forward and reply all (when a third party is a receiver) can be prevented for the third party. To ensure compatibility D3 can change sender address in notification message to own domain and transfer the original sender to the reply-to field.
  • Administrator doesn’t necessarily need to gather statistics from administration panel every time.  Statistics of usage can be sent by e-mail to any given address monthly or weekly and statistics of possible junk mail monthly.
  • Messages sent to wrong addresses will be returned to sender either encrypted or attachments deleted. If for example receiver’s address doesn’t exist, message will not be delivered unprotected in the web and sender of the message will be notified.
  • Notification messages UTF-8 character set support eases multinational communication.
  • International operation can be standardized when all use the same language for communication (Finnish, English or Swedish). Normally language is set according to browser settings.
