Tradeka and Restel invest in confidentiality of communication
Both Tradeka Ltd and Restel Ltd wanted to ensure confidentiality of communication when handling customers' basic information and communicating with different interest groups.
Significance of data protection is a must in the communication of companies' client information, contracts or financial information. Corporate culture and company management act as an example of how seriously company's data protection is regarded. The chief Security Manager of Tradeka Ltd Harri Uusitalo says that the need for securing e-mail traffic has been acknowledged for a long time but the situation has culminated on a problem of usability. He says he has seen many solutions in the course of years. However, none of these were easy enough to implement to Tradeka's own routine or to the processes of organization receiving messages.
Looking for usability
- Problem has been very concrete, says Uusitalo. - If e-mail encryption or receiving secure messages requires special knowledge or use of time from the user, it is clear that with time people will slip from the safe practice, he says.
Uusitalo estimates there are altogether few thousand e-mail users in Tradeka and Restel. According to him the installation of the centralized D3 e-mail encryption solution provided by Deltagon Group was straightforward. There was no need for installations in sender or receiver workstations.
IT Manager Kai Nurmi from Restel says that D3 system has been taken into use successfully in both Tradeka and Restel. - Deployment of the system was fast and didn't require any training; it was primarily a question of notification. Solution has been working very well. We have got positive feedback both from our users and the receiver's, says Nurmi.
The risks are been acknowledged but nothing is done
There’s been a lot of public discussion of information security and the knowledge of users these days is in a different level than few years ago. According to a study organized by Deltagon Group in 2007 sending confidential information over e-mail is very common. Even though 80% of 552 executives who responded to the study feel there is a need for e-mail confidentiality solutions, only 16% have one in use in their company. 62% feel e-mail is appropriately secure for sending confidential information. Nearly two out of three participants who responded to this study were CEO's.
