Usability cases

One of the world's most ubiquitous and widely used computer application is email, an application that enables users to communicate and share messages and documents between individuals, groups, organizations and enterprises located anywhere at anytime.

Unfortunately, standard Internet email is not secure enough for business purposes requiring privacy, security and non-repudiation. The efficiency and effectiveness of email is compelling; however, users take significant risks when exchanging sensitive or important information by email.

Secure Interpersonal Messaging

Increasingly, businesses and organisations are pursuing business streamlining strategies that are dependant on electronic messaging with business partners and customers alike. At the enterprise level, messaging is a key strategy to remove latency and cost from business processes and transactions. At the other end of the spectrum, electronic messaging is being used simply (but importantly) to improve customer service and reduce the cost associated with paper-based documents. Legislation is now active in most key markets governing the use of electronic messaging, providing the foundation rules and guidelines for commercially and legally binding communications executed electronically.

Print Replacement

Many enterprises have significant amounts of printed output generated by the older back end systems upon which they are reliant. There may exist plans to produce an online system that may or may not require the same amount of printing; there is however an immediate opportunity to remove the cost in certain circumstances and improve the effectiveness by delivering the material electronically.

Controlled Document Delivery

Outsourcing document services substantially increases requirements for authentication and access control. Service Providers providing on-line document access to their clients (and their clients’ clients) using the public Internet must be able to provide a method of accessing or distributing documents that is safe and secure from end-to-end, across business boundaries.

Case Management

In many professional environments there is a requirement for several people to come together to work on a case. This specific group of people are likely only to work together in this particular combination for the duration of the case being managed. Individuals in the group are likely to have differing but complementary roles and are typically employed in different organisations each provided with a distinct IT infrastructure. In the case of a juvenile custody investigation, for example, it is possible that the following would need to be involved - school, police, social worker, doctor, nurse, solicitor, probation officer.

Straight Through Business Processes

Straight-Through Processing is a key business strategy in the Financial Services sector. While many organisations have been successful in streamlining processes within enterprise boundaries, streamlining processes by electronic communication across enterprise boundaries is proving a lot more difficult. Deltagon provides a highly flexible and automated secure electronic communication channel between partners based.

Directives

There are situations within many enterprises where it is required that directives are issued, received by many nominated individuals and the receipt is positively acknowledged. Examples of this may be changes to operational policy within a distributed workforce or changes to alert status within government buildings. Where no specific infrastructure exists it can be left to administrators to ensure that the message has been received and acknowledged, possibly using synchronous mechanisms such as voice calls of person-to-person faxes. This can be very expensive operationally and time-consuming.
